Wedding costs by location: West Coast budget guide
A useful wedding budget depends on the guest list, the service level and the place. Published venue packages provide concrete price anchors, but they rarely include the entire wedding. Professional planners offer a broader view of total spending, while their client budgets describe a particular segment of the market. This estimator combines these two types of evidence into four explicit planning scenarios for each of twelve regions.
The resulting figures are modeled ranges, not measured regional averages, price guarantees or statistical confidence intervals. Budget, Standard, High end and Luxury are descriptions of choices and service, not population percentiles. A less expensive wedding is possible through a different format or significant DIY work; highly customized luxury events can exceed every upper figure shown.
Method and scope
What the evidence can establish
The evidence inventory contains 77 selected sources. Priority goes to the businesses that actually price or plan weddings: published professional-planner budgets, official venue brochures, caterer menus and other direct vendor prices. Original industry surveys provide national context. An undated price is identified as such, and older brochures retain their stated year. Prices were reviewed in September 2026; source materials span several booking years and are not assumed to be guaranteed current quotes.
There is no representative, audited dataset of all wedding spending split into these four tiers in all twelve places. The model therefore uses regional evidence to select a plausible base-cost range and a guest-dependent range for each scenario. These coefficients are editorial estimates, not a statistical fit. Sources anchor the order of magnitude and the kinds of services possible; they do not independently prove each endpoint.
National results illustrate why the mean cannot stand in for everyone. The Knot’s 2026 report, describing weddings held in 2025, reports approximately $34,000 in mean ceremony/reception spending and a $24,000 median. It also reports 117 guests and a $292 cost-per-guest metric. Its methodology describes 10,474 respondents recruited from The Knot and WeddingWire; this is self-reported platform-member evidence, not a census of every marriage. Those figures provide context, rather than the starting number multiplied by a location factor. The Knot Real Weddings Study 2026, methodology and cost distribution.
A consistent wedding-day scope
One ceremony and reception: venue, food and drinks, rentals, photography/video allowance, music, flowers, planning or coordination, attire and beauty, officiant, stationery, and an allowance for taxes, service charges and tips. Coverage varies by tier. A Budget scenario allocates less to professional coverage and may rely on DIY or simplified services. It should not be read as a promise of premium photography, videography, full planning and elaborate design at the low endpoint. Standard assumes professional essentials; High end adds service and design; Luxury assumes a more extensive team and custom production.
Rings, honeymoon, guest travel and lodging, accommodation buyouts, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, next-day brunch, and major site infrastructure such as a full tent build are excluded. A weekend property buyout can look expensive partly because it includes rooms or multiple events. It is not directly comparable with a single-day ceremony and reception. Where a planner budget explicitly itemizes excluded spending, the research record adjusts it before comparison. When the scope is unclear, the source is used cautiously rather than silently treated as a full-wedding price.
Calculation and interpretation
Wedding subtotal = base wedding costs + (guest count × guest-dependent costs). The low estimate combines the low base and low guest rate; the high estimate combines their high counterparts. The selected reserve is then added once to each subtotal. Whole-wedding cost per person is the resulting total divided by the entered guest count. The planning midpoint is simply halfway between the endpoints; it is not an expected value inferred from a probability distribution.
The base covers costs that do not move directly with each guest, such as a venue hire, a photographer’s coverage, music and parts of planning or design. The guest-dependent allowance covers food, drinks, table settings and other costs that tend to increase with attendance. Real quotes may instead use minimum spends, table counts, staffing thresholds, minimum nights or percentage-based planning fees. The formula is a broad planning approximation across different venues, not a reconstruction of any one provider’s contract.
For example, taking the Portland Standard coefficients below, a 100-guest wedding has a modeled subtotal of $28,000–$45,000. A 10% reserve produces $30,800–$49,500, or $308–$495 per guest before display rounding. Adding ten guests increases the modeled subtotal by $1,400–$2,300; it does not require purchasing the fixed services again. This arithmetic is a model example, not a quoted Portland wedding package.
Taxes, service charges and the reserve
Published packages may omit service charges, sales taxes, gratuities, delivery or rentals. The regional coefficients allow for these ordinary additions in their ranges. There is no second blanket tax or service percentage automatically added to the entire wedding. The optional reserve—10% by default—is a separate planning cushion, selected by the couple rather than inferred from a vendor quote.
A service charge is not automatically the same thing as a gratuity. Ask each provider which charges apply, what they cover, whether taxes apply to them, and whether any tips are discretionary. Add only charges missing from that specific quote. The estimator is not an itemized tax calculation or a substitute for reviewing contracts.
Guest count, dates and geography
The estimator treats the entered count as people attending, even if the question is phrased around invitations. It does not assume a percentage will decline, and it does not convert households into people. Include children in that number; confirm actual child rates and vendor meals with catering. These individual rate differences are absorbed only broadly by the estimate, not priced separately.
The most useful working range is 50–250 guests. Results for 25–49 and 251–300 are identified as more uncertain. A resort’s minimum spend may remain unchanged when attendance falls; a larger event may need another venue, additional staff, power, restrooms or tenting. An elopement or major production outside this range needs its own budget. Even within the range, individual venue capacities and minimums take precedence.
The model does not forecast inflation or promise the same price for a future year. Peak Saturdays, holiday weekends and short booking windows can differ from midweek or off-season dates. The exact venue location matters more than where the couple lives: Woodinville is grouped with Seattle/Eastside, while Washington Wine Country means the eastern Washington wine regions. Oregon Wine Country refers primarily to the Willamette Valley; the Gorge has its own selection.

Geographic scope: Seattle and the surrounding Puget Sound wedding market; exact venue location changes tax, travel and access costs.
Moderate confidence, with the strongest complete-budget evidence in this set: a local planner’s 100-guest scenarios, venue guidance and published hospitality and entertainment prices.
- Lower Budget estimates require a simpler venue, some DIY and limited vendor coverage.
- Saturday food and beverage minimums can limit savings when the guest list shrinks.
- Tax and service charges vary by location and supplier; large custom productions can exceed the Luxury range.

Budget scenario
The lower range assumes a simpler venue and fewer hired services, supported by public venue rates and restrained local wedding examples. It can require DIY decor, shorter coverage or streamlined food. The upper range approaches the local planner’s entry-level professional scenario, with fees and tax allowed for. Seattle Parks and Recreation; Aisle Less Traveled; WithinSodo.
Standard scenario
Professional essentials are anchored by WithinSodo’s 100-guest guidance and a Seattle planner’s basic-service illustration. The fixed amount allows for the venue and creative team, while guest costs cover hospitality and table-related needs. Published DJ rates provide another service anchor; individual venue minimums can still raise the result. Aisle Less Traveled; WithinSodo; Imperia Lake Union; Puget Sounds featuring DJ Kelli.
High end scenario
The regional planner’s middle illustration supports a larger allowance for experienced vendors, fuller design and upgraded service. This tier adds spending beyond the professional essentials while keeping the event to one ceremony and reception. Venue packages help check hospitality costs, but their included flowers and rentals should not be counted twice. Aisle Less Traveled; Imperia Lake Union; Puget Sounds featuring DJ Kelli.
Luxury scenario
Seattle’s upper planner illustrations support substantial spending on full planning, creative teams, premium hospitality and custom design. The model removes explicit rings, lodging and additional events from that comparison. Its upper figure illustrates an expensive wedding rather than a maximum; major site infrastructure and unusually ambitious production require separate quotes. Aisle Less Traveled; WithinSodo.

Budget scenario
Official park rental prices and prepared-food menus support a simpler Portland wedding with fewer hired services. A lower-cost venue does not include the rest of the celebration. This range assumes restrained decor, streamlined hospitality and some DIY or limited coverage, with separate allowances for vendors and common fees. Portland Parks & Recreation; Elephants Delicatessen; ENSO Urban Winery.
Standard scenario
A local planner’s professional-service guidance anchors the venue, food, photography, DJ and floral allowances. The model adds these essentials within a broad complete-wedding range, allowing for bar, rentals and service costs. Individual packages can offer better value, but small venue capacities and contractual minimums may restrict those savings. Higher Love Event Co.; ENSO Urban Winery; NW Catering; Apogee Event Productions.
High end scenario
This tier expands Portland’s professional essentials with more detailed design, upgraded hospitality and broader vendor coverage. The local planner’s design-forward examples and published supplier services support that direction. The exact boundary is a planning assumption rather than a measured market segment, and elaborate installations can exceed the illustrated allowance. Higher Love Event Co.; Apogee Event Productions.
Luxury scenario
Luxury assumes full planning, premium hospitality and more involved creative production for one wedding day. It extends documented Portland professional-service costs to a richer service profile; complete local luxury budgets are less directly evidenced than Seattle’s. The range has no spending ceiling and excludes lodging, additional events and major site infrastructure. Higher Love Event Co.; Apogee Event Productions.

Budget scenario
Public-hall fees and casual catering establish a practical starting point for couples who choose a simpler format. The fixed allowance includes selective professional coverage and wedding essentials; the guest allowance leaves room for drinks, service and basic rentals beyond food alone. Flexible dates, restrained design and substantial DIY effort are assumed. Bend Park and Recreation District; Barrio Restaurant Group; AlpenGlow Adventure Catering.
Standard scenario
Regional venue fees around $9,000–$11,000 and published complete-client budgets support a meaningful fixed allowance before guest costs. Staffed catering, drinks and conventional rentals then rise with attendance. This scenario targets professional essentials and moderate design; it does not promise that every Bend resort or required spending minimum will fit. AlpenGlow Adventure Catering; River Run Lodge; River Run Lodge; Tetherow Resort.
High end scenario
This scenario allocates more to planning support, photo and video coverage, design and production, while increasing guest spending for upgraded meals, drinks and tabletop service. Local venue policies and nearby Central Oregon menus support that change in scope. The range is a planning judgment, with less direct evidence than the standard tier. River Run Lodge; Tetherow Resort; FivePine; Black Butte Ranch; Sisters Event Studio.
Luxury scenario
A professional planner serving Bend publishes a $75,000 minimum client budget, establishing a premium segment rather than a regional average. Budget scenario
Redwood Canyon and Crystal Springs show that simpler bundled venues can keep costs below full-service planner budgets. This scenario adds room for attire, limited photography, modest flowers and other essentials outside the package. The lower end needs restrained choices, some DIY and flexible dates; it does not assume a central San Francisco luxury venue. Wedgewood Weddings; Fairview Weddings & Events.
Standard scenario
Golden Gate Club's city venue fees and Pinx's catering examples help frame a professionally staffed wedding with a full meal and controlled design. The fixed allowance covers essential vendors and site costs, while the guest allowance covers hospitality and related rentals. Included packages should replace equivalent outside purchases, avoiding duplicated catering, bar or DJ budgets. Wedgewood Weddings; Pinx Catering; Fairview Weddings & Events.
High end scenario
This scenario allows broader photography and video coverage, more professional floral work and additional hospitality or design services. Flower & Forage's published service starting point and Pinx's higher-service catering examples help explain the increase. The total also approaches the budgets described by full-service planners, while leaving flexibility for venue and guest-count differences. Flower & Forage; Pinx Catering; Yiventful Co. Luxury scenario
Yiventful's full-service clientele provides a high-budget reference, but it does not establish a Bay Area luxury average. This scenario allows substantially more for planning, design, coverage and premium hospitality within one wedding day. Custom production choices can exceed either allowance. The upper figure is a planning marker, not a ceiling or a quote. Yiventful Co. Wedding & Events LLC; Flower & Forage; Wedgewood Weddings.

Venue bundles and planner client budgets show several spending paths. Published totals seldom include guest counts, and the luxury band has limited complete-budget evidence.
- Package prices can omit ceremony space, independent coordination, photography and personal expenses.
- Small chapel bundles have limited hours and capacity; their prices should not be scaled to a large reception.
- Undated hotel pricing and older planner guidance need current quotes. Luxury can exceed the upper figure.

Budget scenario
Valentine DTLA's starting packages and Albertson's limited-hour small weddings demonstrate lower-cost options within Los Angeles. This scenario assumes modest design, selective suppliers, restrained food and drink choices and some DIY. It adds room for essentials outside a bundle, but does not extend a chapel's small-event pricing to larger weddings or promise the same price on every date. Wedgewood Weddings; Albertson Wedding Chapel.
Standard scenario
Current downtown and Hollywood-area packages support a wedding with professional essentials and a full reception, provided the couple controls upgrades. The fixed allowance includes space, coverage and other suppliers; the guest allowance includes dining, drinks and scalable event costs. ZF's broader client guidance helps check the resulting total without treating its clientele as a city-wide average. Wedgewood Weddings; The Hill Los Angeles / Hilton Universal City event venue; ZF Elegant Events.
High end scenario
This scenario expands planning support, design, photography/video and hospitality beyond essential packages. ZF's client budgets and the Mitzvah Sisters' planning-fee structure help frame those additional services, while The Hill shows that ceremony and coordination can remain separate from reception rates. Venue upgrades and more complete vendor coverage explain the higher fixed allowance. ZF Elegant Events; The Mitzvah Sisters; The Hill Los Angeles / Hilton Universal City event venue.
Luxury scenario
Los Angeles luxury weddings vary widely with venue exclusivity, planning scope and custom design. This scenario reserves more for premium hospitality and a larger professional team, informed by planners who describe six-figure celebrations. Public hotel packages provide only partial context because their full fees and units need confirmation. The upper figure is not a spending ceiling. ZF Elegant Events; The Mitzvah Sisters; Hilton.

Budget scenario
County park fees support a DIY venue path, while The Abbey shows how a basic private package changes the budget. Rentals, staffing and permits still require funding; a low park rental price is never the complete wedding cost. County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation; The Historic Abbey.
Standard scenario
Local planner guidance and the Zoo's venue-and-dining structure help frame professional wedding-day essentials with a full meal and controlled styling. Actual quotes must account for independent coordination, bar hours, taxes and minimum spending before the couple commits. Wedding Agency San Diego; KB Weddings and Events; San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance; The Historic Abbey.
High end scenario
This scenario allows stronger design, broader photo/video coverage, upgraded food and longer hospitality service. Wedding Agency San Diego's vendor ranges explain those additions, while private and coastal packages show how venue choices affect the total. Published resort offers have restrictions, so this allowance does not promise a particular waterfront location or a peak Saturday date. Wedding Agency San Diego; The Historic Abbey; La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
Luxury scenario
San Diego planners describe celebrations above six figures, but complete current resort wedding budgets are less publicly available. This scenario makes larger allowances for full planning, premium dining, extensive coverage and custom design within one wedding day. The resort evidence is partial and date-dependent, so actual quotes can exceed the range, especially for exclusive venues. Budget scenario
Foothill venue prices support a simpler Mount Hood wedding with open vendor choices and limited professional coverage. High end scenario
High end adds stronger design, upgraded hospitality and broader coverage to the region’s venue and professional-service costs. Local full-service floral pricing supports a meaningful design allowance, while mountain logistics can add fixed costs. Budget scenario
An open-vendor venue can support a simpler Gorge celebration when the couple keeps design and professional coverage limited. The Locks’ published site package helps anchor fixed costs, while hospitality still requires separate budgeting. The lower range assumes some DIY and streamlined service, rather than an intimate premium vineyard package. The Locks Venue; Higher Love Event Co..
Standard scenario
A regional planner’s higher Gorge cost guidance and published venue tariffs support a modest premium over Portland’s professional essentials. The guest allowance covers hospitality and table-related costs, with local fees included in the modeled range. Actual savings depend on venue minimums, selected services and which side of the river hosts the wedding. Higher Love Event Co.; The Locks Venue; Cape Horn Estate.
High end scenario
Premium hospitality examples and local full-service floral prices support more generous service and design allowances. This tier also leaves room for a complete professional team and Gorge logistics. Small vineyard packages inform the cost structure but are not multiplied beyond their capacity, and their included design items must not be duplicated. Analemma Wines; Cape Horn Estate; Heather's Flower Farm; Higher Love Event Co..

Budget scenario
Rural venue tariffs and regional supplier prices support a simpler wine-country celebration with streamlined service and some DIY. Lower-priced Scio or foothill examples do not represent every premium vineyard estate. The fixed allowance covers more than venue hire, while the guest allowance leaves room for food, drinks and basic table needs. Pastre Creek Ranch; Green Villa; Vineyard View Celebrations; Apogee Event Productions.
Standard scenario
Standard combines published wine-country venue prices with nearby professional-service guidance for a complete ceremony and reception. It assumes restrained design, a full meal and essential vendors rather than a resort buyout. Confirm what furniture, bar service and staffing are included so those costs are neither omitted nor counted twice. Green Villa; Vineyard View Celebrations; Apogee Event Productions; Higher Love Event Co..
High end scenario
The Allison’s ceremony, reception and hospitality minimums establish a substantial commitment before a full vendor team is hired. This tier adds planning, upgraded design, media and other essentials around that hospitality level. The model is regional rather than a quote for that resort, and current contract prices may differ. The Allison Inn & Spa; Apogee Event Productions; Higher Love Event Co..
Luxury scenario
Luxury allows full planning, premium hospitality and custom design beyond the documented venue and supplier baselines. Comparable complete wine-country luxury budgets are scarce, so the upper range is a modeled scenario with wider uncertainty. Lodging and multiday events remain separate, and extensive production can exceed the illustrated total. The Allison Inn & Spa; Higher Love Event Co..

Geographic scope: Walla Walla, Yakima Valley and Prosser, plus Tri-Cities, Benton City and Red Mountain. Woodinville belongs with Seattle; Chelan, Spokane and the Columbia Gorge are outside this regional model.
Winery, barn and nonprofit venue rates support varied budgets, with catering and planner prices informing service allowances. The region has substantial variation, and public evidence for complete luxury weddings is limited. These ranges are model judgments rather than local averages.
- Woodinville is excluded. A Walla Walla Valley venue across the Oregon border has different tax treatment from a Washington address.
- Winery quotes may require wine purchases, restricted catering, security or portable restrooms as guest counts increase.
- Some venue prices already include tax. Confirm current catering rates and fees before adding them; older sample menus are directional only.

Budget scenario
Nonprofit venues, shorter winery rentals and casual catering provide lower-cost options across the region. This scenario assumes flexible timing, limited vendor coverage and meaningful DIY effort, with an allowance beyond food for drinks, basic rentals and fees. Mandatory wine purchases, security or restroom requirements can make a particular winery unsuitable for this budget. Airfield Estates Winery; Red Star Barn; Yakima Area Arboretum; Stone Soup Cafe.
Standard scenario
Published venue choices span roughly $3,500–$8,900, while staffed catering examples show why food, drinks and fees require a separate guest allowance. The fixed component supports conventional professional essentials and moderate design. Walla Walla, Yakima and the Tri-Cities have varied inventory; this broad scenario is not a quote for every venue. Red Star Barn; Sugar Pine Barn / Tucannon Cellars; Yakima Area Arboretum; Walla Walla Steak Co. / Yellowhawk Resort.
High end scenario
Higher venue commitments and published professional planning fees support a larger fixed allowance for coordination, coverage and design. Upgraded catering, bar service and tabletop choices increase the guest component. Current complete-catering evidence is limited, so the range remains a transparent planning judgment; tax-inclusive venue prices must not receive another tax charge. Sugar Pine Barn / Tucannon Cellars; Walla Walla Steak Co. / Yellowhawk Resort; Tin Sparrow Events.
Luxury scenario
Full planning and custom design require substantial fixed spending even for a smaller guest list. Premium hospitality and staffing add a higher guest allowance, but public evidence does not establish a representative luxury wedding total for this region. These coefficients describe an ambitious single-day scenario, with an open upper end and separate lodging or infrastructure costs. Tin Sparrow Events; Sugar Pine Barn / Tucannon Cellars; Walla Walla Steak Co. / Yellowhawk Resort.

Budget scenario
Fairview Napa's bundle, Yountville's community facilities and local catering menus support an economical alternative to an exclusive winery celebration. This scenario assumes simple design, limited coverage and some DIY, with room for missing personal services and fees. Facility-only prices require a separate catering and rental budget; bundled services should not be purchased twice. Fairview Weddings & Events; Yountville Events; Napa Catering Company.
Standard scenario
CES's event-management client budgets and V. Sattui's menu starting point help frame a professional Napa wedding with controlled design and hospitality. The fixed allowance leaves room for venue and essential vendors; guest costs cover food, drinks, rentals and staffing. Choosing a more complete venue bundle can shift spending toward photography, attire or other priorities. CES Weddings & Events; V. Sattui Winery; Fairview Weddings & Events.
High end scenario
CES's full-service client guidance supports a larger professional team and more involved design, while winery dining and local whole-wedding guidance help frame hospitality spending. This scenario allows more coverage, florals and guest service than the essential tier. Planner figures describe selected clients across several regions, so the resulting range remains a planning scenario rather than a Napa average. CES Weddings & Events; V. Sattui Winery; Napa Valley Weddings.
Luxury scenario
This scenario allows substantial full planning, premium hospitality and custom design for one wedding day. Napa's professional guidance shows a high-spend market, but published luxury buyout weekends include lodging and additional events that are excluded here. The fixed and guest allowances are therefore broad judgments; exclusive properties and ambitious production can exceed the upper figure. Napa Valley Weddings; CES Weddings & Events; V. Sattui Winery.

The evidence is uneven. Public packages make venue and catering components easier to verify than a complete luxury wedding. Smaller destination regions often require nearby vendor-market comparisons. Provider-published budgets can overrepresent full-service celebrations, while basic rental fees can understate the labor and infrastructure needed to turn a space into a wedding. Neither should be promoted to a representative average.
The tier boundaries are model judgments about service and design choices. A simpler wedding at a high-cost estate can cost more than a High end wedding at an inclusive venue. A smaller wedding can have a lower total but a higher cost per person. These are not contradictions: service choices, minimums and fixed expenses explain them.
Before booking, obtain itemized venue and catering proposals for the actual date and guaranteed attendance. List included rentals, setup, breakdown, staffing, delivery, service charges and applicable taxes. Confirm the scope of photography, video, music, planning and décor separately, and compare the resulting complete budget with the estimate. Keep the reserve available for changes rather than using it to make an incomplete quote look affordable.
