A closer look

How your standard wedding estimate is calculated

A local planner’s professional-service guidance anchors the venue, food, photography, DJ and floral allowances. The model adds these essentials within a broad complete-wedding range, allowing for bar, rentals and service costs. Individual packages can offer better value, but small venue capacities and contractual minimums may restrict those savings.

Some expenses change with your guest list. Others, such as your venue hire, photography and music, have a base cost. Provider minimums can limit savings from fewer guests.

What does this wedding cost estimate include?

One ceremony and reception: venue, food and drinks, rentals, photography/video allowance, music, flowers, planning or coordination, attire and beauty, officiant, stationery, and an allowance for taxes, service charges and tips. Coverage varies by tier.

At the Budget tier, this can mean DIY work, shorter professional coverage, or simpler choices. It does not promise a full vendor team at every price point.

Wedding expenses to budget for separately

Rings, honeymoon, guest travel and lodging, accommodation buyouts, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, next-day brunch, and major site infrastructure such as a full tent build are excluded.

Holiday dates, venue minimums, travel-heavy logistics and ambitious installations need individual quotes. Vendor meals and child pricing should be confirmed with catering.

Local context

How much does a wedding cost in Portland, Oregon metro?

Moderate confidence from a local planner’s professional-service guidance, official venue prices and catering menus. Public sources describe different service levels rather than a representative regional average.

  • Budget can involve a public picnic venue or delivered food, with extra work and fewer hired vendors.
  • Compare food-only rates with fully staffed catering carefully; rentals, service and bar may be separate.
  • Some inexpensive venues have small seated capacities, and room or bar minimums can outweigh guest-count savings.

Higher Love Event Co.: FAQ — Budget & Fit

Portland planner Higher Love describes a lean $20,000 floor for 50–75 guests and full-service food at $100–150 per guest before bar. It gives a $24,000 comparable Gorge floor and a 15–20% premium for Gorge costs. These are experience-based planning estimates, not documented population averages.

How much does a wedding cost?

The Knot reports an average US wedding cost of $34,200 in its 2026 study of 10,474 couples married in 2025. That is a national ceremony-and-reception benchmark, not a minimum budget or a quote for your location. In this calculator, rings, the honeymoon and additional events need separate allowances. Read The Knot’s wedding cost survey and methodology.

A wedding budget starts with your priorities, location and guest list. Use these answers to understand your estimate, compare options and prepare for conversations with venues and vendors.

What is a realistic budget for a 100-guest wedding?

As one example, this calculator models a Portland Standard wedding for 100 guests at $30,500–$49,500, including a 10% reserve. Select your region and enter 100 guests to compare Budget, Standard, High end and Luxury scenarios. The ranges are modeled planning allowances, not measured regional averages or quotes. The midpoint is a starting point; simpler celebrations may cost less, and luxury spending has no ceiling.

Does wedding cost per person include more than catering?

Yes. It is the estimated wedding total, including your selected reserve, divided by attendance. That total combines base costs such as photography and music with guest-dependent costs such as meals and table settings. It is not the price of adding one more guest.

What wedding expenses are included or excluded?

The estimate covers one ceremony and reception: venue, food, drinks, rentals, photography/video allowance, music, flowers, planning or coordination, attire, beauty, officiant and stationery. Coverage varies by tier; Budget may involve DIY or shorter coverage. Plan separately for rings, honeymoon, guest travel, lodging, accommodation buyouts, additional events and major infrastructure such as a full tent build.

Are taxes, service charges and a planning reserve included?

The underlying ranges allow for ordinary taxes, service charges and tips. Your selected reserve, initially 10%, is a separate cushion added once. A service charge does not necessarily include gratuity. Confirm each quote’s inclusions before adding fees to your own budget.

Why do wedding costs differ by location?

Venue prices, vendor markets and destination logistics vary. The 12 regions distinguish Seattle, Portland, Bend, California metros and destination areas such as Napa Valley and Oregon Wine Country. Choose where the wedding will happen. Published planner budgets and vendor prices inform the ranges; individual dates and venues need quotes.

Will fewer guests make our wedding less expensive?

Usually, guest-related costs fall while many base costs remain. Venue and catering minimums can limit savings. Enter expected attendance, including children, rather than households. The calculator accepts 25–300 people, with stronger evidence for 50–250; smaller and larger celebrations receive additional uncertainty notes.
